Our COVID-19 State of Mind

We all know that 2020 was a hot damn mess on multiple fronts; and, no one can un-hear the phrase “unprecedented times,” even though we all wish we could.

Our struggle in the U.S. has yielded record high unemployment rates coupled with too much “at home time,” which has left people (young and old) everywhere re-evaluating their lives.

Have you asked yourself any of the following this past year:

  • What do I do now?
  • Who even am I anymore?
  • What’s my path forward?
  • Would making a life change even matter?

I mean the odds are stacked against us in these “unprecedented times,” right? (Okay, I promise I’ll stop saying that now).

Sound like you? Same here.

One thing that has remained the same is that change still remains constant and is still inevitable.

So, my friends, the question is: how do we meet these challenges head-on so we can better cope and grow even while experiencing adversity on a global, pandemic-sized scale?

Enter the Importance of Your Personal Brand and its Connection to Your Wellness (especially during the hard times)

You may be asking: what is a personal brand anyway? I actually get asked this question a lot, so I’ll give you my definition.

Simply put, your Personal Brand consists of who you are, how you operate, and what you want for your life all wrapped up in one package to create what makes you uniquely you.

Your Personal Brand can help guide you through life and also helps others assess how and where you can add value to their lives, companies, goals, etc. It’s for this reason that you should always keep your Personal Brand top-of-mind.

The concept of personal branding isn’t new. In fact, it’s cited to have originated in the late 90s with an article by Tom Peters titled, “Be Your Own Brand.” Since then, there have been several books, articles, and institutions who have explored personal branding and why it’s essential to your success [seemingly most often] in your career.

Why it’s time to STOP overlooking your wellness.

While personal branding isn’t new, I’m hard-pressed to find many takers who tackle why your Personal Brand is important to your overall wellness.

The truth is your Personal Brand has more to do with your wellness and mindset than most even realize – it’s not enough to simply think within the context of our careers and stop after we define our strengths, weaknesses and values at work.

To truly discover your entire Personal Brand, you have to embrace all areas of yourself, which happens to include your wellness. I don’t know about you, but if all my Personal Brand consisted of was work, I would ask for a refund, puh-lease!

You are SO MUCH MORE than your career!

I know many of us young professionals realize the need to change how we place value on our own wellness, especially as it relates to that elusive work-life balance companies seem to talk so much about.

Work-life balance: Bueller… Bueller…

And most often, we’re left to manage our own growth and wellness, which is why knowing your Personal Brand is SO important. Once we build a solid personal brand foundation, we can take steps to align our actions to our goals and, hopefully, start taking steps to manage our own growth, success and wellness throughout our lives.

And, what better time to start your Personal Brand journey than during a global pandemic, right?!

Lay the foundation for your growth, success and wellness in life.

5 Actions to Help You Live Well (Even During COVID-19).

If you read my About page, you know that I, too, struggled with carving out wellness in my life. After all, I’m like any other American who works way too hard and just wants to live a good life and feel a sense of purpose.

I created Your Brand Mind to help others like me take charge of their lives by leveraging their Personal Brands to ignite growth, success and wellness in their lives.

So, how can you approach wellness for yourself especially during COVID-19?

Personal Brand Mind Map

1. Focus on your wellness mindset.

On top of everything else in our lives, we have to deal with a pandemic – further pushing us away from achieving wellness. So, instead of focusing on what you can’t do, I want you to focus on what you CAN do – even if it’s something small at home – and how you feel about your current state of wellness.

Ask yourself:

  • do I actually feel “well?”
  • what’s lacking in my life that I could use more of?
  • if I could do one thing for myself each day that makes me feel good, what would it be?

2. Identify your self-love behaviors.

What is a self-love behavior? Well, they are the things you do to take care of yourself that support your overall wellness.

They could be things like:

  • working out
  • meditating
  • reading a book or watching a show that YOU like
  • spending time on your hobbies
  • just to name a few.

Figuring out what makes you feel “well” is an important step to help you take action to implement these wellness behaviors, so you can start to take charge of your wellness.

3. Actually make time for your wellness.

Taking time to focus on what wellness looks like to you is just the first part of your commitment to living well.

In order to achieve your wellness goals, you have to make time to practice wellness behaviors.

Think about how you can:

  • change your mindset and realize that your health and wellness should be priority #1
  • find time for yourself each day (even just 5-10 minutes)
  • engage others to support you in your wellness efforts
  • create a space at home where you can practice your wellness behaviors (uninterrupted)
  • discover what motivates you to keep prioritizing your wellness

4. Create a wellness routine and stick with it!

I know this is SO hard for people to do, especially if we are feeling down and unmotivated. BUT, the secret to success here is to just get started. Lay out a daily (or weekly) routine that supports advancing your wellness, write it down, set reminders, and take action to uphold it.

Give yourself the gift of true wellness this year!

5. Make a promise to yourself to continue your wellness behaviors even after COVID-19.

Promise yourself that whatever progress you make igniting your wellness during the remainder of COVID-19 you will continue implementing those wellness behaviors even after we return to a normal state of operation.

Undoubtedly the hardest part of achieving wellness lies in our ability to maintain a consistent routine of wellness behaviors.

Strive to finally live the life you’ve always wanted to live.

Act on Your Wellness & Start Living More Intentionally.

After I started thinking seriously about creating Your Brand Mind, I began to explore my own personal brand and really looked hard at who I was (not who I wished I was) and where I wanted to go.

I asked myself:

  • What qualities do I admire in myself?
  • Is there anything I don’t like?
  • How do others describing me – my personal brand?
  • What’s stopping me from achieving what I want in life?
  • Is success even achievable?

I realized that – to achieve the result I wanted – I needed to lay out a clear path forward. To understand where I was going, I needed to look at where I’ve been

Unknowingly, I was already practicing the very process I was trying to create. My process was helping me learn to live more intentionally: if I better understood who I was and what I wanted (a.k.a. built my Personal Brand), I could learn to be more intentional with my growth and development to achieve the results I wanted.

And so, here we are – on this blog talking about topics I know so many of us need to hear right now.

Your development doesn’t have to stop just because the rest of the world is on hold. If you dig deep, you CAN ignite your wellness even during the most unlikely of times.

But, it has to start with YOU.

I’m committed to teaching you that you:

  • have a unique, Personal Brand – that is SO AWESOME (even in the worst of times).
  • will grow and succeed (in more ways than one), if you simply take steps to live intentionally.
  • CAN achieve wellness, even when you feel like you’re at your most unwell.

YOU have the power to ignite your own wellness.

And, if you build the foundation for your Personal Brand, you can take those much-needed steps to grow with Intent, achieve your desired success and start living well.

BUT DAN, WAIT!! This all sounds awesome.

How do I start building my Personal Brand, now?!

Well, I’m glad you asked, my friend. It was my mission, when I started down this path, to help people like you learn from some of the mistakes I made with my own brand.

So, I curated my personal and professional experiences and created a course that will help you build a solid personal brand foundation, so you can get to work on achieving your own growth, success and wellness in life.
